Why Running Tourism?

Running ToursRunning tourism is a relatively new concept in the travel business, although people have been doing it for years. Funny how we have to give something a name all the time. Running tourism is a name that has been coined as businesses have been set up around the world offering sightseeing tours and holidays for people who want to get out of the car or off the bus, and see the wonders of the city or countryside under human power.

It’s a fine concept actually, but there are still relatively few companies out there offering this type of guided running or jogging tour. Why? Well, it is not for everyone, a lot of people ‘hate’ running, but there are certainly enough runners out there to make the concept a very attractive proposition to those who are willing to put in the effort. To run a running tours company, you’ve kind of got to like running, or know people who do. This makes it a reasonably good barrier to entry for a lot of people to start such a business. And depending on the type of tours you are prepared to offer, you can make the barrier even greater. Longer tours, different terrains, seminars and running holidays in the middle of nowhere? This appeals a lot to many runners, but not so much to the couch potato who can’t even run up the stairs at home.

And running is a sustainable and eco-friendly way to see the city. Fuelled by water and a few snacks, the body is a machine designed to run, so why not put it to good use and explore the world around you.

RunTours Launches

RunTours, the running holiday company based in the South West of the United Kingdom, has just launched a new website at www.runtours.co.uk. Founder and CEO Steve Reed, a long time runner and natural fitness enthusiast, has launched the business to get more people to realise that running is a very good thing to do, for your physical and mental health. Being part of nature is something that far to few human beings participate in these days, and Steve believes it is having a very detrimental effect on our health and our relationships, not just with nature, but with each other too.

There are many runners around the world who love to stick a pair of trainers in their bag when they go away, so helping people to find the best running routes, and to take in the scenery in the area they visit is a wonderful idea. Furthermore, RunTours will eventually be offering running holidays to those who have never run before. Learn to run over a few days or a week in wonderful locations. Advice on posture, running style, and training plans, can go a long way to making people happier and healthier.

Keep an eye on this site if you are interested in a running holiday. Or if you are a runner with experience, drop us a line if you would be interested in becoming a RunTours running guide.
